Learning Through Doing in Reception

Our Reception children have been fully immersed in their learning this term, embracing a hands-on approach that brings their topics to life.
As part of their Seeds to Plants topic, the children have been busy becoming young gardeners. Through careful observation and nurturing, they have successfully grown their very own radishes. This practical experience has allowed them to understand exactly what plants need to grow, while developing patience, responsibility, and a real sense of achievement as they watched their efforts flourish.
The excitement continues as the children begin their new topic on Life Cycles. They will have the incredible opportunity to observe one of nature’s most fascinating transformations — from caterpillar to butterfly. Watching this process unfold in real time will help deepen their understanding of growth and change, as well as spark curiosity and wonder about the natural world.
Learning by doing is at the heart of our Early Years curriculum, and it has been wonderful to see the children so engaged, enthusiastic, and eager to explore. We are very proud of how they are embracing these experiences and developing their knowledge through hands-on discovery.
We look forward to sharing more of their learning journey as it continues!
