Year 6 Curriculum

Hey, budding geographers!  We are drawing our studies of Charles Darwin in South America to a close.  We left him last, studying the variations in a number of species on different islands of the Galapagos archipelago.

Hi there, Year 6.  Here is the last of our studies into 5 world religions.  Next week, we will look at Humanist beliefs as a secular contrast to our religions studies so far.  Enjoy researching today's world religion - Hinduism.

So, what could be better right now than a chance to: travel back in time to the 19th Century; transport yourselves across the oceans and the equator to the exotic islands of the Galapagos archipelago; and walk in the footsteps of one of the world's greatest scientific thinkers - who also happens to be British!    How cool is that?  Very cool!  So, here you go...  Bon Voyage, discoverers!

This is a good standard for the illustrations - you would have to add labels, of course.

Hey Year 6, here we are in our final half-term of Primary School.  I would encourage you to reflect a little bit today on your Life Journey, and the important transition/milestone you are coming towards.  Reflect on how you feel about this, and whether you think it is a secular or religious milestone.

In the meantime, we are continuing our study of 5 key world religions.  After our final religion next week, we will be researching what people believe who are non-religious in their outlook.  But first, let's discover more about the Sikh religion.  I especially encourage you to read the article below on what a local Sikh community in Warrington has been doing to help out our community of front line workers during this Coronavirus pandemic.

Good afternoon, everyone.  You are SO lucky today, as you have two activities to bring Children's Mental Health Week to a close.  You have a reflective PSHE activity, focused on who you are, what you are grateful for and your dreams for the future; and an ART assignment designed to capture the essence of Children's Mental Health Week this week.

I would like to encourage you to complete both activities - even if you take them on as a project that you work on and complete over the holidays.    So, find a lovely quiet spot, and chillax and enjoy...

So, here's Part I...

The above assignment is attached below...

Welcome to Children's Mental Health Week.  A chance for you to be kind to yourself, and kind to your mind!

Go to the Home Learning page, to see Westie introducing the week.  Take some time to read through the 'Launch PDF', making sure you listen to the Bravery Story, 'Wolf's Colourful Coat' - there are lots of lovely hidden messages in the narrative.  For those of you with younger siblings, I think it would be very sweet of you to take responsibility for watching the story with them, and explaining the messages behind it to them - especially those of you who are missing your reading with the little ones in school.

Concentrate and work productively.  However, if you need to, you may take time to complete these activities throughout the week.  I would rather you take your time and have the task done well,  with good understanding, than done fast.  Enjoy!
