Year 3

With all the concerns over the coronavirus outbreak and how this might impact schools and your child’s learning, we wanted to offer you some ideas to help you continue their education during any potential school closures.

We also appreciate that keeping children engaged in their learning whilst at home is not going to be easy and so we have provided links to a range of content for your child that can be completed independently or with adult support.

For independent learning and games, we recommend using Classroom Secrets Kids.  Packed with fun and engaging content, this online learning platform will guarantee to keep your child learning independently.  Parents will need to register and create a free account for each child in the household before accessing these resources.  Registration is easy and explained clearly on the site.

In the event of a school closure, staff will update this page with daily activities to complete. If this page is not updated, please refer to the class packs above.

If your child does not have login details for any of the online resources, as sent out in home learning books because they have been off, please email the class teacher for details.

Hi Year Three!

If you do something at home you would like to share over the coming days, for example complete a lego model, paint or draw a picture, make a cake or do some crafts or even if you make something in your garden like a den or plant a seed etc you can email a photo to your teacher and we will put them on the class page of our website. If you want to write a brief explanation of what you did we will put that on too. We thought this would be a nice way to keep in touch and share what we have been doing with others in the classes! Obviously we don't expect this regularly off everyone nor is it compulsory ... its just if you want to and you are proud of an achievement!

Mrs McGregor and Mrs Murray

We would like you to write a dairy explaining what is happening in the world right now and how it makes you feel. This links with the PHSE work that Westie is helping us with this week and will become part of a time capsule that we are collating to bury on the school grounds. The hope is that in the future, the children can read about this unprecedented time and we can help them to understand what it was like.

Can you think of anything else we could put into the time capsule? We would love to hear your ideas and thoughts about our lockdown. Perhaps you have drawn rainbows and you would like us to include that?

We have already come to the end of the first Summer term and hope you enjoy your half term break. We’ll be back in two weeks, eager to read your diary entries and hear your ideas for the time capsule. Most of all though, we just want you to go and have fun!

We have set a new ROCK BATTLE on Times Tables Rockstars. The children who were in school this week have asked for another Class Seven versus Class Eight tournament. They would like everyone to join in and make this challenge even more epic than the last one. Class Eight Children were really keen to even the score as Class Seven won bu just a few points last time.

So get Battling! We will keep you updated with the leader board over the next week on the classes page of the website.

May the 12th is International Nurses day. It is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale who was a very special nurse who helped soldiers in the Crimean War. She was known as the "Lady with the lamp" as she carried it around whilst checking on her patients at night time.

This year to mark the occasion, people have been asked to "Shine a light" from their window at 8pm to remember all the nurses who have helped people in the past and also right now as part of the NHS.

We hope you enjoy learning about her today.

VE Day explained

This Friday we have a very special bank holiday to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE day. Due to the restrictions we are under, we’re unable to celebrate how we would like to but that won’t stop us! The BBC is running a campaign called The Great British Bunting. We'd like you to make your own bunting and send us photographs so we can share with all of your friends on the website.

  • Place sand or soil in the saucer and wet it so it is damp. (Not muddy)
  • Arrange your leaves and flowers in a pattern - try to cover all the soil/sand.
  • Take a photo and send it to your teacher via email. We will post these on our class web page.
  • There will be a prize sent to the best entries!

Additional investigation for the weekend…

Like the PP says, cyclists can travel over many different surfaces. If you go for a bike ride as part of your daily exercise, see if you can ride different surfaces such as grass or gravel. Can you feel the difference? Don’t worry if you can’t do this right now. It can always be saved and done at a later date.

Don’t forget to send us any photographs of your investigations!
